Perched on a hilltop, the residence has panoramic views. The Desert Sun says it was once owned by best-selling crime writer Joseph Wambaugh, a former Los Angeles police officer who wrote “The Onion Field” and many other books.

The 3-acre property neighbors a bighorn sheep preserve, giving it plenty of privacy and security. It’s in Rancho Mirage in California’s Coachella Valley, near Palm Springs.
